Naturopathic Treatments
Botanical Medicine
Botanical medicines have been used with efficacy for a multitude of conditions ranging from, but not limited to, the common cold, sore throat, IBD, heartburn, nausea, indigestion, muscle pain, depression, common complaints during pregnancy, trouble with lactation, diabetes and cardiovascular health.
Botanical medicine can be prescribed in the form of tincture, tea or tablets. Naturopathic Doctors are extensively trained in botanical medicine efficacy and safety so can recognize when they are applicable and when they interact with pharmaceutical medications.
Nutrition
Hippocrates had it right, health starts with the food we eat and the health of our gut. Nutrition is the foundation of good health, affecting every aspect our body. Proper nutrition and the elimination of problem foods can have profound affects on your physical health, mental health, energy levels, pain levels, digestive health, fertility, hormone health and blood markers. After a nutritional analysis is done, dietary modifications will be prescribed if your ND sees fit. She may prescribe a therapeutic diet or give therapeutic guidance to optimize your diet and will provide dietary counselling to help you make the changes required.
Mind-Body Medicine and Lifestyle Counselling
Exercise, meditation and mindfulness are paramount to health. Research shows there is significant benefit to stress, anxiety, energy, pain, mood, weight management, blood sugar control, osteoporosis prevention, thyroid health, hormone balance and cardiovascular health.
Despite knowing this it is incredibly easy to avoid exercising, meditating and being mindful during the day. In fact most people avoid it completely. Your treatment plan will include recommendations for all three factors and your doctor will provide guidance to adopt them into your daily life.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years. The treatment uses very fine sterile needles inserted into energy meridians to bring your energy into balance. Acupuncture has been shown to be beneficial to many health condition including but not limited to stress, anxiety, digestion, sleep, hormone balance, headaches, body pain, hormone balance, hot flashes, menopause, fertility, common pregnancy complaints and labor and delivery support.
Nutritional Supplements
Though the preference is to get what you need from your food, sometimes you do need to supplement for a time. Dr. Field is committed to prescribing supplements only as needed. While Vital Roots Wellness does carry a dispensary of supplements we will make sure that you at no time feel the pressure to purchase from us. Rather, we will inform you of the of the therapeutic dose required and options for where to purchase.
Intravenous (IV) Nutrient Therapy
Using nutrients intravenously allows us to bypass the digestive tract and get higher levels of vitamins and minerals directly to the cells that need them. Custom formulas containing vitamins and minerals are made just prior to your appointment. The most common formula we use is called the Myers’ Cocktail, named after Dr. John Myers, MD. It consists of a combination of magnesium, calcium, B vitamins and vitamin C administered intravenously. The Myers’ Cocktail can be administered via an IV push or an IV drip and takes between 10 and 40 minutes depending on which method is used.
